ICanBe Charity Day

written by
Tessa Dewing

On 30th January we welcomed 8 brilliant girls from Cobholm Primary Academy to Sandra Reynolds on behalf on ICanBe charity to learn about what we do as a company and explore new opportunities within this industry.

ICanBe brings seven and eight year-old girls into the world of work, broadening their horizons and enabling them to explore jobs they otherwise may never have been exposed to.

Run through schools, the programme gives Year Three girls the opportunity to research, visit and interview a wide range of female professionals in their workplaces during their working day.

Our ICanBe session began with an introduction to the Sandra Reynolds and East Coast Production teams and a tour of our office space. The girls thought our studio was super cool!

Then we went straight into a Q & A. Each girl came prepared with a fantastic question for the SR and ECP teams. We particularly enjoyed when they asked me if I had met anyone famous and I excitedly told them I once bumped into Robbie Williams! Sadly, none of the girls knew who Robbie Williams was…although they were delighted to find out CBeebies Minibeast Adventure presenter Jess French is part of my family!

After the questions, I talked to the group about what my role is at East Coast Production and how I got into the modelling industry. I explained the process of a production shoot and all the different elements that go into it.

Then it was time for the girls to have a go! I described how they would be working as a team to recreate a shoot for one of our clients, Orchard Toys.

Each girl was assigned a role with different members of our team: one producer, one photographer, three models, one interior stylist, one behind the scenes photographer for social media and one graphic designer to add branding to the final images.

The girls were absolutely terrific. All of them worked exceptionally hard within their roles and were very good at taking instruction from the mini producer who oversaw the whole shoot. They were absolute superstars and the final image looked fantastic!

Our ICanBe session was incredibly rewarding. It was heart-warming to see confidence bursting out of each girl and to see the happiness on their faces looking at the final images.

Sandra Reynolds was the seventh workplace the group had visited and we hope the girls thoroughly enjoyed their experience and can take away that if they put their mind to it, they can do anything.
